NTEU
Charters New TSA Chapters in
Fort Lauderdale and Miami
Transportation Security Administration
(TSA) employees at two of the country’s busiest airports
will benefit from strong workplace representation as NTEU charters
two new chapters—NTEU Chapter 312 (TSA Fort Lauderdale)
and NTEU Chapter 313 (TSA Miami).
The union expects to charter three
additional chapters by the end of the month, bringing total
NTEU representation to nearly 2,000 TSA employees nationwide.
The chapters join a growing network of
NTEU TSA chapters at some of the nation’s largest airports
across the country. Last year, NTEU chartered TSA chapters at
John F. Kennedy International Airport and LaGuardia International
Airport in New York as well as Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International
Airport.
In its fight on behalf of TSA
Officers (TSOs) nationwide, NTEU continues to pursue a five-point
representation plan to change the culture of the TSA workplace
and ensure the equity, security and stability of the TSA workforce.
Elements of the five-point plan
include helping TSOs join the rest of their colleagues in the
federal workforce in gaining full collective bargaining rights
by statute; the elimination of the unfair pay-for-performance
system and moving TSOs onto the General Schedule pay system;
fighting for adequate staffing and fair scheduling; improving
the training and recertification programs; and granting TSOs
whistleblower rights by law.
The union also is positioned
with local staff attorneys to represent TSA employees at every
chapter on critical workplace issues, including promotions,
disciplinary actions, shift bidding, overtime, performance appraisals,
leave issues and work schedules and hours, as well as alternative
work schedules.
